While staying in Grindelwald, you can enjoy fantastic day trips to nearby places such as Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, and Bern. These locations offer unique experiences and are not to be missed!
Jungfraujoch
A day trip from Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch is not to be missed when staying in Grindelwald. The trip involves taking a train that will take approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes to reach the Jungfraujoch station.
The train ride offers stunning views of the Swiss Alps and passes through several picturesque villages.
Once you reach the Jungfraujoch station, you can explore the Top of Europe attractions, including the Ice Palace, Sphinx Observatory, and the Aletsch Glacier.
Combining a trip to Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald First in one day is also possible.
Interlaken
Interlaken is a picturesque town nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The scenic beauty of this place will leave you in awe.
You can take a train from Grindelwald to Interlaken, which will take around 30 minutes and cost 12-14 CHF one way, while Eurail Pass holders can get a 25% discount on the train ticket.

Lake Brienz: a beautiful lake with clear blue waters and opportunities for boating and swimming. We loved it here so much. I have never seen a lake this beautiful before.

Oberhofen Castle – If you are up for a visit to a magnificent park near a lake with a pretty cool castle, this is the place for you.
Lauterbrunnen
Lauterbrunnen, the valley of 72 waterfalls, is a must-visit destination in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The train journey from Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen takes roughly 40 minutes.
The city is small and beautiful, with plenty of restaurants. There are two main attractions here. Staubbach Falls, visible from the village, and Schilhorn, also known as Piz Gloria, is a mountain top where James Bond 007 was filmed.

Mürren or Wenger
Mürren is a small traditional Swiss alpine village perched high up in the mountains, accessible via cable car or train. From Grindelwald, you can easily reach Mürren by taking the train to Lauterbrunnen, followed by a cable car and another short train ride.
On your visit, stroll around the car-free village and enjoy the panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. If you are an adventure enthusiast, consider exploring some of the numerous hiking trails or even skiing in the winter season.
We visited Wengen. It was a 10-15 minute train ride with spectacular views over Lauterbrunnen. Wengen itself is also very pretty. We spent a couple of hours strolling around the town and enjoying our delicious afternoon snacks before returning to Lauterbrunnen.

Bern
Bern is the capital city of Switzerland. It is a little over an hour’s drive from Grindelwald, but it was worth it. The old town is very charming. Bern is also known as the city of fountains because of how many beautiful fountains you can find here.
It also makes a pretty good trip on a rainy day. There are about 6 miles of arcades connecting different shops and restaurants. You can walk around all day, covered in the rain, and enjoy your day. Here are some top destinations in Bern for you to consider.

Zytglogge – is a landmark town located in the old town of Bern. While you are here, make sure to explore the old town.
The Cathedral of Bern & Münsterplattform is another beautiful architectural work. Munster Plattform is a park located right next to it. You can stop by if you are looking for a place to relax for a few minutes.
BarenPark – BarenPark is a park in the middle of Bern, located on the Aare River, where you can see three vast and healthy bears doing business. Unlike typical zoos you may be used to, these bears have plenty of space to roam around.
Rose Garden – a beautiful rose garden in Bern located near Baren Park. Not only do you get to see pretty flowers here, but you can also get a spectacular view of the city of Bern from above.

There is also a restaurant where you can grab your lunch here. As a side note, if you start from Zytglogge or the Rose Garden and walk toward the other destination, you will see many top landmarks, beautiful buildings, rivers, fountains, and shops. It is easy to see much of what the old city offers without feeling lost.
