When you think of Autumn, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Cozy sweater weather? Apple pie in the oven? Pumpkin picking? Haloween preparation? Perhaps, it is a hiking and some leaf-peeping fun? The list is long when it comes to fall favorite activities. It is my favorite season of the year. I love the transition from hot and humid days to cooler sweater weather. Visiting fruit orchards and hiking foliage trails fills my heart with positive energy. In this post, you can read about the 10 best fall activities to engage during the fall season.

Visit your local fruit orchard to handpick those ripe and juicy apples. Yes, you can buy apples at a supermarket, but where is any fun in that, right?! Visiting an orchard to pick apples and roam between the apple trees is fun for both adults and kids. It is a great way to reconnect with nature and get some fresh air. Also, a great way to teach your kids about apples and how they are grown. Just make sure that we all respect the environment and pick only those apples that will be bough and used later.

Besides picking apples, there are many festivities and activities to attend in most orchards. Pre-plan your visit before scheduling the trip.

If you live near the NYC area, check out Eastmond Orchards, or Battleviw Orchards. These orchards are generally open to the public. However, before visiting them, make sure to check their websites for COVID restrictions.

Freshly picked apples make a perfect addition to fall table decor along with pumpkins. Not to mention that one of the best ways to get the use of them is making a crispy homemade apple pie. Yum!

I enjoy baking on occasional bases. Although I have never made a pie before, this year I am dedicated to making it happen. I will share my full experience here as soon as I receive my pie-pan! YAY!

When to Visit Apple Orchards?

Depending on where you live, there are a variety of apples grown. They all grow at their own peace and have different harvest times. However, the mid-September and early October is considered to be the best time to have some apple picking fun and gather some sorts of apples!

Gather pumpkins on your own. Fall is the time when you will find the pumpkin flavors in most food and beverage establishments. Pumpkins have become the top decor items to fill the homes and outdoor porches during the fall season. Hand-picking pumpkins in various sizes and shapes at the orchard is much more satisfying than shopping for them in the supermarket. Besides, kids love going pumpkin-picking and carrying their favorites in their carts. So adorable!

We had an opportunity to drive through the Kankamugus highway almost during the peak foliage a couple of years ago. One of the most scenic roads in New Hampshire. The experience was truly surreal! We also visited Vermont in the fall a couple of years ago. Although a recent stay there was during summertime, it was as beautiful and enjoyable.

If you are not up for driving long distances, don’t worry. Nearby parks work too. All you have to do is follow the foliage map based on your area and aim for those peak days for some extra color.
